Who We Are

HomeHelpNH is a program that provides at-risk homeowners with free, professional, objective homeownership counseling and, for those who qualify, free or low-cost legal advice to help them decide the best options for their housing situation. The counseling is provided by eight regionally-based nonprofit housing agencies that provide free comprehensive foreclosure intervention and counseling services.

By calling 2-1-1 or by completing a referral form found on this website, at-risk homeowners will be connected to a network of free, in-state homeownership counselors. These local counselors are available to help at-risk homeowners regain control of their housing situations, help bring housing stability to their communities, and improve the State’s economy as a whole.

This initiative is administered by New Hampshire Housing and began in 2008 under Governor John Lynch. Governor Lynch asked the New Hampshire Banking Department, the New Hampshire Department of Justice and New Hampshire Housing to develop a campaign to reach at-risk homeowners and help them connect with their mortgage servicers, local housing counselors, and the legal resources that were available at the time. The group developed this website and continues to work on outreach efforts to help prevent foreclosures.

HomeHelpNH works in cooperation with the New Hampshire Foreclosure Relief Project, a partnership between the New Hampshire Bar Association, New Hampshire Legal Assistance, and the Legal Advice and Referral Center, to help at-risk homeowners receive legal services.  The Foreclosure Relief Project provides low- or no-cost legal assistance to qualified homeowners who are facing foreclosure or foreclosure-related financial and legal problems.
